Aquarium Chiller

Fish and invertebrates are cold blooded and hence you must be aware that their body temperature is controlled by the temperature of the habitat they live in. Water temperature in fish tank or Aquarium hence is a very important factor. Sudden fall or rise of even 5 degree temperature will become fatal for the fish. Hence its recommended to keep the water temperature stable. The fish requires optimal temperature range and not extreme.

In India, certain regions are prone to extreme climate. The variance between day time temperature and night temperature varies from 5 degrees to 25 degrees. These can cause same change in water in a pond or fish tank. In such conditions we recommend use of heaters and chillers / aquarium fans.

Continues cycles of temperature variance in water can cause stress to the fish and stress can cause various disease because during high stress the immune system doesn’t work properly.
More over increase in water temperature also decreases the Oxygen levels in water which again causes trouble.
Apart from that algae can grow much faster in warm water and thus create a bigger issue for the pond or fish tank.

How to choose a chiller

The size of the chiller or fan is decided on various factors:
1)      How warm does the water gets?
2)      How much fund do you have to spend on intial and running cost?

There are many brands of fans and chillers in the market. If you have a small tank, of the size of 50 – 300 Liters, we wont recommend a chiller. Reasons being the cost is not justified. You can buy fans which can mounted on the top of the fish tank and can be used. These fans will cool down the evaporating water and thus keep the water temperature under control on the surface of the tank. Once the surface temperature is cool and water circulates, your tank will have perfect water temperature . Fans comes with one single blade or even multiple blades.
This is the most cheapest form of chillers

Second option is to buy a thermoelectric chiller. These can be made at home also. But the effectiveness is not great.

Third option is chillers which use refringent. They are expensive in capex and opex both. But if you have a tank of over 300L then it surely makes sense to protect your fish and invertebrates from hot water problems. There are brands like Boyu, JBJ, Artica which manufacture good quality Chillers and are sold in India. Operations are pretty easy and doesn’t need service too often.

Tips for lower water temperature
1)      Lights on the tank causes major rise in water temperature. Move to low power LD lights and keep the lights ON only for 6 -8 hours per day
2)      Magnetic pumps which are used in the filter can cause the water to heat up. Buy pumps which cause less heat
3)      Use good quality filter media like Bio lite and Lava chips. These have natural tendency to cool the water
4)      Never keep your fish tank near any heating machines like heating duct or heaters. Or near windows or Doors where direct sunlight access is there.

Fish Pond Air Compressor

Everything about Pond Aeration Everyone knows that pond with fish needs good amount of Oxygen. Life without oxygen is impossible and a pond with less amount of Oxygen can hold only less number of fish. To support large amount of fish in a captive pond, you need to provide external Air (which will contain Oxygen). Pond with fish will generate a huge amount of toxic air from the waste and decomposed material at the bottom and hence the bottom of the pond will always lack Oxygen. A lot of people use spray bars or fountains to re-circulate water thru fresh air by means if which Oxygen is added to the water. This was harmful gases will be released to the atmosphere and Oxygen gets added because the surface area of water getting in contact on the moving water will increase. Its always advisable to leave the surface (top) of the pond free from Water lilies and lotus plants because these plants cover the top, the maximum area will not have access to fresh air. Otherwise you need to have H

Fish Net

This article is not for medium and expert level aquarists . But may be beneficial for entry level hobbyists. There are some basics to start a new aquarium. And a lot of people are ignorant towards and get into trouble or find difficulty after they start off. This is a basic requirement of fish keeping. Irrespective of what ever level of expertise you have, fish net is a must. Fish is very sensitive in nature. Handling without care will not only physically harm them, but also physiologically. A scared fish can move around very fast and can hit the equipments and wall of the tank and harm themselves. More over a stressed fish will have shorter live.  Fish nets are available in different sizes and hence choose the right size of the net based on the size of the fish and the tank.  Fish net will come handy while cleaning the tank or changing tanks or during transport.

Fighter Fish Food

We often see people feeding food to fish in the aquarium. But do we know what food they really need and what quantity they need! Most people depend on the Local Fish store to decide as to what your fish needs. And that may not be 100% time 100% Right. We at Easypets.in recommend always good quality branded packed food against the live feed. Some people feed their fish fresh vegetables, worms and other smaller variety of fish (for eg Gold fish). These come with their own problems and we do not care much about the after effects. Live fish / Worms might come with parasites and bacteria which can infect your tank or pond. We have numerous such cases where customers have complained about infection due to live fish feeding. There is more to this. Live feed is obviously good source of proteins but the fish in the tank / pond requires carbs and vitamins. That is not given in sufficient quantity can cause deficiency.  Our last word: DO NOT FEED LIVE FEED to your fish if you want a health
