Difference between cold-pressed and
expeller-pressed oil?
I have explained the difference between Expeller Pressed Oil
and Cold
Pressed Oil.
Processing Methods:-
Expeller Pressed Oil:
Processed at higher temperatures, typically around 210 degrees
Fahrenheit. The pressure apply heat on the oil source .
Cold Pressed Oil:
Processed under heat-controlled environment and temperatures
that never exceed 100 degrees Fahrenheit.
Differences in Nutrient Content:-
Expeller Pressed Oil:
There is enough loss of nutrients due to the expeller pressing
method.
Cold Pressed Oil:
Because cold-pressed oil is
processed at lower temperatures does not alter the properties of the oil which
contains a higher phenolic and nutrient content than expeller-pressed oil. Cold
pressed oils retain all their flavour, aroma, and nutritional value, making
these oils great for cooking and skin care requirements. They contain zero
grams of trans fatty acids and are naturally cholesterol-free.
Differences in Taste:-
Expeller Pressed Oil:
The higher temperatures at which expeller-pressed oil is
processed impart a toasted, nutty flavor. The more heat used to extract the
oil, the more toasted the oil tastes.
Cold Pressed Oil:
Cold pressed oil is
processed at or below 100 degrees Fahrenheit, it has a more neutral, mild
flavor similar to eating raw/source. For instance, when you use cold pressed
groundnut oil for cooking, the taste is very similar to raw groundnut.
Cooking and Uses:-
Expeller Pressed Oil:
Expeller-pressed is a good choice for baking when you want to
add a nutty, toasted flavor.
Cold Pressed Oil:
Use cold-pressed oil for dishes that call for a mild, more
neutral taste.
Deep Frying:-
Expeller Pressed Oil:
Not suitable for deep
frying
Cold Pressed Oil:
Suitable for deep frying because cold-pressed oil has high
density
Expiry Period:-
Expeller Pressed Oil:
6 Months
Cold Pressed Oil:
1 Year
Price:-
Expeller Pressed Oil:
Price is cheap because 2 Kg of sesame seeds and 0.5 Kg of Palm
Jaggery yields 1 Kg of sesame oil. Because of its high pressure, the oil seeds
extracts more oil from the raw sesame seeds.
Cold Pressed Oil:
Price is slightly higher because 3.1 Kg of sesame seeds and 0.5
Kg of Palm Jaggery yields 1 Kg of sesame oil.
Recommendation for Cooking:-
Expeller Pressed Oil:
This is not recommended for cooking purpose.
Cold Pressed Oil:
In overall, any oil you are using that needs to be cold-pressed
oil. This is strongly recommended by nutritional experts.
Health Benefits:-
Expeller Pressed Oil:
Due to more heat which alters the properties of the oil
including it's natural flavor and taste, some artificial flavour is added. Some
preservatives also added to extend the life span of the oil upto 1 year.
Cold Pressed Oil:
1. Cholesterol free
2. Not refined, deodorized or processed in any way.
3. Do not contain harmful solvent residues.
4. No added chemicals or preservatives.
5. Contain natural antioxidants such as tocopherols (e.g. Vitamin E) and phosphatides (e.g. Lecithin). The natural flavour and odour is retained, enhancing your favourite recipes.
